Mr. Ching-Hsien Jian began his Phalaenopsis journey in his 40s, while collecting many varieties along the way. In the meantime, he decided to breed a more creative Phalaenopsis. As a result, he converted a restroom into his secret laboratory, and experimented on orchid sterile breeding technology.
In 1978, he founded I Hsin Orchid Grower’s Service Center which provided tissue culture service to many orchid growers in Taiwan. This service has made outstanding contributions to Taiwan’s Phalaenopsis industry. His two sons and daughters-in-law also followed in their father’s footsteps. The company later became the famous global supplier I Hsin Biotechnology, Inc.
In 2010, Chien’s grandchildren, Kees and Sjaak, started running the new branch I Hsin Orchids, Inc. in North California. With a plant pathology and horticulture background, Kees supplies I Hsin Orchids to well-known Phalaenopsis growers on the West Coast.
In 2015, I Hsin set up another branch called IHSIN Plants, Inc. in Southern California. Sjaak, with 3 years experience as a Cultivation Manager in Lodi California, started to manage the Sol-Cal branch in Somis, California. Sol-Cal is dedicated to being a stable supplier in Phalaenopsis plants.
